Information Parchment Handles

Journal Content

Parchment stores the daily notes, handwriting, drawings, media attachments, captions, alternative text, dates, and app settings you create in the app.

This information is used to provide the app's core features, including writing, editing, viewing past daily notes, syncing your journal between your devices, exporting journal sections, searching your journal, and using Shortcuts or Siri actions you choose to run.

Photos, Camera, Scans, and Media

When you explicitly add media, Parchment can use the system photo picker, camera, document scanner, or file picker. Parchment supports still images and stores normalized copies with their captions, alternative text, previews, and markup in your journal.

Before storage or sync, Parchment renders images in their correct orientation and removes embedded location, device-identifying, and other nonessential metadata. Parchment does not request Location access. Media and markup sync only through Parchment's private iCloud container when iCloud is enabled.

Parchment recognizes text in attached images on your device so you can search for it in the app. That recognized text is added to Spotlight only when Spotlight indexing is on, the same as typed text and handwriting, and is removed from Spotlight when you turn the setting off.

iCloud Sync

If iCloud is available for your Apple Account and enabled for Parchment, Parchment uses Apple's CloudKit service to sync your journal data between your devices. Journal data is stored in your private iCloud database for Parchment.

Parchment does not operate a separate server for your journal content. The developer does not receive or have direct access to the daily notes stored in your private iCloud database.

You can control iCloud access for Parchment in the Settings app on iPhone and iPad, or in System Settings on Mac.

Calendar and Reminders

With your permission, Parchment can access your calendars and reminders to show today's events and due or overdue reminders at the top of your daily note. Parchment can also mark reminders complete when you choose to complete them in the app.

Calendar and Reminders access is used only for these agenda features and day summaries. Parchment does not sell, share, or use your calendar or reminder data for advertising or tracking.

You can change or revoke Calendar and Reminders access at any time in the Settings app on iPhone and iPad, or in System Settings on Mac.

App Intents, Shortcuts, Siri, Spotlight, and Search

Parchment supports system features such as Shortcuts, Siri, App Intents, and Spotlight. If you use these features, Parchment may read or update journal content on your device to complete the action you requested, such as adding text to today's daily note, opening a journal date, or summarizing a day.

Spotlight indexing is off until you explicitly enable it in Parchment Settings. When enabled, Parchment indexes journal dates, full typed text, recognized handwriting, and recognized text from media with Spotlight so you can find daily notes through system search. This index is handled by Apple on your device. Turning Spotlight indexing off removes Parchment's existing Spotlight items from that device, including text recognized in images; Parchment keeps that recognized text on the device for search inside the app. Turning it back on rebuilds the on-device index.

Journal intelligence features run on device only when you request them. Your journal content is not sent to third-party AI services or Private Cloud Compute.

Support Email

If you contact support, your email address and anything you include in your message will be received and used to respond to your request. Please avoid sending private journal content unless it is necessary for support.

Information Parchment Does Not Collect

Parchment does not:

• Track you across apps or websites.
• Use the App Tracking Transparency framework because Parchment does not perform tracking.
• Include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
• Sell your information.
• Require you to create a Parchment account.
• Collect payment information.
• Request your location or access your microphone, contacts, or health data. Photos and the camera are accessed only through explicit Add Media actions.

Data Sharing

Parchment does not share your journal content, calendar data, reminder data, or app usage data with advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, or third-party AI services.

Data may be handled by Apple services when you use Apple platform features, including iCloud, CloudKit, Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight, Calendar, Reminders, crash reports, and App Store services. Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's own privacy policies and the settings for your Apple Account and devices.

When you search for a place for a reminder's location alert, the text you type is sent to Apple Maps to find matching places.

Data Retention and Deletion

Active journal data and media remain on your devices and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your private iCloud database while they are stored in Parchment.

Deleting a media attachment immediately removes its local OCR and hides it from the journal. A record of the deletion and earlier versions of the attachment's details remain in your private iCloud database, so all your devices agree, even one that was offline. Image files already uploaded may also remain; media deleted before its first upload sends only metadata, not the image itself. Local copies of deleted media become eligible for cleanup after a limited recovery period. Recovery Copies are managed separately.

Clearing a daily note's text or erasing a drawing removes it from the journal on that device. When the change syncs, Parchment either deletes the matching records from your private iCloud database or adds a content-free deletion marker there; earlier versions of the daily note and its drawings may remain, so all your devices agree, even one that was offline. Other devices show the cleared daily note only after a successful sync.

The Delete Local Data maintenance action clears the journal cache on that device and then downloads the private iCloud copy again; it is not a request to delete the iCloud copy. You can also remove local app data by deleting the app from your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, deleting the app may not delete data already stored in iCloud.

If Parchment cannot open its local journal store, it leaves that store untouched unless you explicitly choose the recovery option. That option first creates and verifies a local Recovery Copy before rebuilding from iCloud. Recovery Copies can contain journal content, remain only on that device, are excluded from general cache cleanup, and remain until you explicitly delete them.

To manage or delete iCloud data, use the iCloud settings provided by Apple for your Apple Account and devices. If you contact support, support emails may be retained as long as needed to respond to the request and maintain support records.

Your Choices

You can:

• Use Parchment without granting Calendar or Reminders access, though agenda and day-summary features will be limited.
• Revoke Calendar and Reminders access in system settings.
• Disable iCloud for Parchment in system settings.
• Disable Spotlight indexing in Parchment Settings.
• Delete journal content in the app.
• Delete the app from your devices.
• Contact support to ask privacy questions.

Children

Parchment is a general productivity and journaling app. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. If the policy changes, the Effective Date above will be updated.
