Tips & tricks

Small habits that make the page yours.

Parchment stays intentionally simple, but a few shortcuts can make daily planning, writing, and reflection feel almost effortless.

01

Move through the week without losing your place

Use Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow for the days closest to you. Open the calendar for any other date. On iPhone and iPad, you can also swipe between daily pages while you are writing.

A daily page is ready for every date—even before you write anything.

02

Create agenda items in natural language

Tap the plus button in Agenda and type the item the way you would say it. Parchment can recognize dates, times, lists, locations, repeating schedules, and whether you want an event or task.

03

Let Markdown add structure

Use headings, links, lists, and checkboxes inside the daily note. Turn Markdown rendering on or off in Editor Settings, then choose the font, size, and margins that make the page feel right.

04

Switch from typing to handwriting

On iPad, open handwriting mode whenever a sketch, map, or handwritten thought fits better than text. Apple Pencil Only lets your finger keep navigating while the Pencil does the drawing.

Your handwriting syncs with the rest of the day and remains visible on iPhone and Mac.

06

Return to an earlier version

Open Version History from a daily note to review saved text and drawing versions. Parchment merges concurrent changes automatically, so restore a version only when you want to replace the current result.

Version History is especially useful after editing the same day on more than one device.

07

Use Parchment from Shortcuts and Siri

Add text to today’s note, open today, open a specific date, or ask Parchment to summarize a day. Find the supplied actions in the Shortcuts app and combine them with your own automations.

Try adding an “Open Today” action to your morning routine.

08

Make the agenda show only what matters

In General Settings, choose the calendar and reminder lists Parchment should display. You can also hide events after they end and choose the default calendar, reminders list, and alerts used when you create new items.

Widgets can follow the app’s sources or use their own source selection and colors.

09

Edit the plan without changing apps

Tap an event or reminder to open its details. From there you can update or delete it, open the source reminder, and complete reminders without leaving Parchment.

Changes are made to the same system event or reminder you see in Apple’s Calendar or Reminders app.

10

Put Parchment on the surfaces you use

Add agenda widgets to the Home Screen or Lock Screen, add the Parchment control to Control Center, and use Spotlight to find indexed daily notes from system search.

Lock Screen text may stay hidden until your device is unlocked, depending on your privacy settings.

11

Keep a copy beyond the app

Share an individual day as text or PDF. For a broader archive, open Settings and choose a ZIP containing one TXT or PDF per day, or a Text Bundle that preserves Markdown and embeds drawings.

Export creates a portable copy while your working journal stays in Parchment.
