A little help, right when you need it.

Tasks in Parchment are reminders from Apple’s Reminders app. Parchment does not keep a separate task list: it reads the reminder lists available to the system, subject to the Reminders permission and the lists you select in Parchment. Completing a task in Parchment completes that reminder in the Reminders app too.

Calendar events come from the system Calendar database. In practical terms, if Apple’s Calendar app can see an event—from iCloud, Google, Exchange, or another calendar account—Parchment can see it too once you grant Calendar access and select that calendar in Parchment. Parchment does not run a separate calendar service.

Parchment stores journal content on your devices. If iCloud is enabled for Parchment, it also uses your private iCloud database to sync between your Apple devices. There is no separate Parchment account or journal server.

First, confirm the missing item appears in Apple’s Reminders or Calendar app. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Reminders and make sure Parchment is enabled. Then go to Privacy & Security > Calendars, select Parchment, and choose Full Access. On Mac, open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security, enable Parchment under Reminders, then open Calendars and give Parchment Full Access. Finally, open Parchment > Settings > General and make sure the reminder lists and calendars you want are selected. If Parchment is not shown in the system permission list, open Parchment and view your agenda so the permission request can appear. After changing access, quit and reopen Parchment.

Open Settings, choose Sync, and use Sync Now. The Sync Diagnostics section shows recent activity and any pending work. Make sure each device is signed in to the same Apple ID with iCloud enabled for Parchment.

Parchment can search typed daily-note text, recognized handwriting, calendar events, and reminders in one place. A result can open the matching daily note or agenda item. Calendar and reminder results depend on the system permissions and source selections you have given Parchment.

New and changed entries may need a moment to finish indexing. Make sure the note has been saved and, for handwriting, that the writing is clear enough for Apple’s on-device recognition. If only calendar or reminder results are missing, check those permissions and selected sources. Spotlight indexing can be turned off in Parchment Settings; turning it back on rebuilds the on-device Spotlight index.

Open the daily note and choose Version History. Parchment keeps saved text and drawing versions, including source versions involved in a concurrent edit. Review the date and device information, then restore the version you want. Parchment normally merges concurrent changes automatically, so restore only when you want to replace the current result.

A Recovery Copy is a verified, on-device copy Parchment creates before rebuilding a journal store that it cannot open. It may contain journal content, stays only on that device, is not removed by general cache cleanup, and remains until you explicitly delete it. It is separate from the Version History shown for an individual daily note.

Yes. On iPad, switch the daily note to handwriting mode and use Apple Pencil for writing, drawing, or diagrams. In General Settings, Apple Pencil Only lets finger touches navigate instead of draw. Handwritten pages remain visible on iPhone and Mac after they sync.

Yes. Use Export in Settings to choose a ZIP containing one TXT or PDF file per day, or one Text Bundle containing Markdown with embedded drawings. You can also share an individual daily note as text or PDF from the main journal view. Export creates a portable copy and does not remove the working journal from Parchment.

Apple provides an API that lets Parchment work with Reminders and Calendar, but there is currently no public, cross-platform API for reading or writing Apple Notes. Without that system access, Parchment cannot offer a reliable Apple Notes integration across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. You can still export or share a copy of your writing when you want to use it elsewhere.

Obsidian vaults can be synced in several different ways, each with its own file access, availability, and conflict behavior. Supporting those setups safely and consistently across iPhone, iPad, and Mac would add considerable complexity rather than a single dependable integration. For now, Parchment keeps its journal system focused, but you can export a copy of your writing for use elsewhere.

iOS can hide privacy-sensitive widget content while the phone is locked. Check Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Allow Access When Locked > Lock Screen Widgets if you want widget content available before unlocking.

Delete Local Data clears the journal cache on that one device and then downloads the private iCloud copy again. It is a maintenance tool, not a request to delete the copy stored in iCloud.
